Louie Gohmert- R-Tx Introduces Legislation to Remove Immunity from Social Media Giants

While claiming unbiased coverage in the accused squelching of the free expression of conservative views, Section 230 of the Communications Act of 1934 (page 89 of the linked document) grants immunity from lawsuits to tech giants like Twitter and Facebook.

In return for this exception, they are supposed to act as neutral platforms promoting free speech. Clearly, they do not.

The Gateway Pundit spoke with two conservative publishers who noted a significant drop in traffic since 2016 (Donald Trump’s campaign and election year):

Floyd Brown is a conservative author, speaker and media commentator. In 2008 Floyd launched Western Journal which quickly became one of the top conservative websites in America. By 2016 Floyd’s organization of Western Journal and other conservative websites under his umbrella had more than a billion page views. Since 2016 Floyd’s organization lost 75% of its Facebook traffic.

They also spoke with Jared Vallorani from Klicked Media (a hosting service for over 60 conservative sites) who stated:

Jared traveled to Washington DC with The Gateway Pundit and website owners at 100%FedUp in June to discuss Facebook targeting against conservative publishers with Republican lawmakers. Jared told The Gateway Pundit his organization Klicked Media, which hosts over 60 conservative websites, lost 400 million page views from Facebook in the last six months if you compare the traffic to a year ago. Jared said, “We lost 70% to 80% of our traffic if you compare January to May 2017 vs Jan to May 2018.”

If you combine the total number of page-views lost by just these two conservative online publishers alone, it comes to a massive loss of over 1.5 billion page-views from Facebook in one year.

The Gateway Pundit has been impacted as well. Their Facebook traffic has been effectively eliminated after they were ranked as the 4th most influential conservative publisher in the 2016 election. And there are thousands more. Gateway noted a study that demonstrated a 93% loss in traffic to conservative websites since 2016.

This is just Facebook.

Twitter is applying the same bias- both altering their platforms to prevent conservative stories from being shared or viewed.

Additionally, Facebook and Twitter eliminated Alex Jones and his Infowars accounts claiming hate speech, not to mention others like Roger Stone etc.

Someone in Congress Cares About the Tech Bias on Conservative Free Speech

Finally, House Rep. Louie Gohmert introduced legislation that targets the liberal bias at these tech dictators. He released the following statement on his proposed bill, H.R. 7363 that proposes to amend Section 230 of the Communications Act of 1934:

Social media companies enjoy special legal protections under Section 230 of the Communications Act of 1934, protections not shared by other media. Instead of acting like the neutral platforms they claim to be in order obtain their immunity, these companies have turned Section 230 into a license to potentially defraud and defame with impunity…..Representatives of social media companies have testified in Congressional hearings that they do not discriminate against or filter out conservative voices on their platforms. But for all their reassurances, the disturbing trend continues unabated……Since there still appears to be no sincere effort to stop this disconcerting behavior, it is time for social media companies to be liable for any biased and unethical impropriety of their employees as any other media company. If these companies want to continue to act like a biased medium and publish their own agendas to the detriment of others, they need to be held accountable.

Gohmert’s bill will remove the liability protections. This will allow lawsuits to be filed against these obviously biased tech giants and let a free market take aim where it is deserved without government protections.

It is high time the conservative and counter points to the leftist, liberal, Marxist inspired views that are permitted free expression on social media. Hate speech against Donald Trump and other conservatives to a level of disgust have been allowed while anyone offering a contrary view is squelched with restraint.

Mika Brzezinski Comments Get Free Speech Treatment

Butt Boy? This is Acceptable on National Media but Roseanne Barr is Not!

Roseanne Barr makes a relatively tame comment compared to many others and has her show cancelled. Mika Brzezinski (MSNBC Morning Media Anchor) used the term “butt boy” about Mike Pompeo’s defense of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and it is quickly passed over after a cursory unapologetic apology.

There is a marked double standard promoted by the leftstream media that needs to be stopped immediately if we are to truly claim to be a free speech society.

As it stands now, we are not. In truth and fact, the way things are going we are fast approaching Soviet-style censorship closer to George Orwell’s novel 1984 than to the mythical freedom of speech guaranteed to us under the 1st amendment. Time to correct this or settle for a Marxist styled level of discourse.

However with the Democrats, who profit the most from their sycophant supporters in media, taking control of the House in January don’t expect this legislation to go anywhere. This may likely never reach the light of day.

The Dems with their strong leftward turn, which always includes censorship of speech contrary to their point of view, need all the help they can get to push their largely unpopular agenda on those of us who see through their tyrannically based game of the State over the people.
